The rebels of this month show us that age really is just a number when the world’s climate clock is ticking. For just over a year now, Greta Thunberg has been protesting about the dire conditions of our climate and that governments are not taking constructive action. She recently gave a powerful speech at the UN’s Climate Action Summit 2019 and has, yet again, reignited the flame to fight for climate justice. Check it out by clicking on the thumbnail below:
In addition to this, there have been a number of noteworthy protests across the globe by citizens pleading for their government to act in the best interests of the environment rather than in the interest of economic loss of gain. “The Extinction Rebellion is an international movement that uses non-violent civil disobedience in an attempt to halt mass extinction and minimise the risk of social collapse”. The group first assembled on 31st October 2018 and has significantly grown in popularity worldwide. 91-year-old John Lynes has joined this rebellion and is fighting for climate justice. Lynes, among others, is currently being charged with failing to comply with a condition imposed by a senior officer following a blockade at the Port of Dover.
The worldwide rebels of this month are showing us what it means to be an eco-warrior and prove to us that it does not matter whether you are young or old – this is everyone’s problem. So, take time to understand what really matters and consider the bigger picture. Find that passion inside of you to take action and fight for something that has a huge effect on all of us. We believe that these individuals and groups encapsulate the rebel ethos as they have a skeptical approach to the world.
